Accessibility
This site is built to be usable by everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboards, and assistive technology.

Our commitment
Erika Creydt for Senate is committed to making this website usable by as many people as possible, regardless of ability or the technology they use to browse. Voting information should not be harder to reach for some people than for others.
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the international standard for web accessibility.
What we have done
These are specific measures built into the site, not general intentions:
- Color contrast. Every combination of text and background on this site has been measured against the WCAG formula, including text sitting over photographs where the image itself changes the contrast. All pass Level AA.
- Keyboard navigation. Every link, button, form field, and menu can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone. Focus indicators are visible and are never removed.
- Skip link. A "Skip to main content" link is the first thing a keyboard or screen reader user reaches on every page, so navigation does not have to be tabbed through repeatedly.
- Text alternatives. Images that carry meaning have descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked so screen readers skip them rather than reading out filenames.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, animations and scrolling effects are switched off automatically.
- Structure. Pages use real headings in a logical order, real lists, and real landmarks, so screen reader users can navigate by structure rather than reading top to bottom.
- Forms. Every field has a visible, permanently associated label — not a placeholder that disappears when you start typing. Errors are announced, not shown only by color.
- Responsive text. The site works when text is enlarged and when viewed on small screens, without content being cut off or requiring horizontal scrolling.
- Video. Videos have visible playback controls and are never set to autoplay.
Known limitations
We would rather name the gaps than imply there are none:
- Video captions. Our campaign videos do not yet have closed captions or transcripts. This is a real barrier for deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors, and it is our highest accessibility priority. If you need the content of a video in text form now, contact us and we will send it to you.
- Third-party pages. Our donation processing and voter registration lookup are operated by third parties. We chose vendors with accessibility in mind, but we do not control their code. If you hit a barrier on one of those pages, tell us — we will help you complete what you were doing and raise it with the vendor.
- Documents. Any PDFs we publish may not be fully tagged for screen readers. Ask us and we will provide the contents in an accessible format.
Tell us if something does not work
If you encounter a barrier on this site, we want to hear about it. You will not be treated as a nuisance — a report is genuinely useful to us, and we will do our best to fix the issue and, in the meantime, get you the information you were looking for another way.
Please tell us what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what technology you were using, if you are comfortable sharing that.
- Email: info@erikaforwhatcom.com
- Mail: Erika Creydt for Senate, PO Box 764, Lynden, WA 98264
We aim to respond within three business days.
Voting accessibility
Accessibility at the ballot box is separate from this website and is administered by the county and the state. Washington offers accessible voting options including an online ballot marking tool that works with screen readers and other assistive technology.
- Washington Secretary of State — voting with a disability
- Whatcom County Auditor — Elections Division
If you need help getting to a ballot drop box or navigating the voting process, contact us and we will connect you with the right office.
